Liz (Procopio) Kan - Percussion
Liz is currently the Percussion Instructor and Drumline Advisor at Ashland University, Percussion Instructor at Shelby High School, Principal Percussionist of the Mansfield Symphony, Section Percussionist of the Lakeside Symphony, and works as an assistant at Freer Percussion LLC. She also holds the position of Ohio Chapter President for the Percussive Arts Society.
Liz performs with the Erie Philharmonic, West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic, Ashland Symphony, Richmond (IN) Symphony, Springfield Symphony and Lansing Symphony. Liz has also performed and recorded with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and can be heard on the recent Grammy nominated album, Transatlantic. She has had the honor of working with Keith Lockhart (Boston Pops), JoAnn Falletta (Buffalo Philharmonic Music Director), Ken Lam (Charleston Symphony Music Director), Miguel Harth-Bedoya (Fort Worth Symphony) and Louis Langree (Cincinnati Symphony). Guest Artists she has performed with include Itzhak Perlman, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Peter Schickele/PDQ Bach, Sō Percussion, Rich Redmond (drummer for Jason Aldean), and Michael Burritt. Furthermore, she has performed as a chamber musician at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 2016 and OMEA Conference in 2018.
Liz studied with Jerry Noble at Wright State University where she earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in Music Performance. During her time at Wright State, Liz served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, Pep Band Director, and Percussion Pedagogy Instructor. Liz also studied with Tom Freer (Cleveland Orchestra), Charles Ross (Rochester Philharmonic), Gwen Dease (Michigan State), and Keith Aleo (Interlochen).
