Music Together

This essential Music Together® class, is great for the whole family! Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Any caregivers parents, grandparents or nannies can bring the children.

Music for Little Mozarts

Once again we are offering Music for Little Mozarts, a group piano class for children ages 4-6. This program is designed to help students develop singing and music listening skills and at the same time, provides a bridge between the discipline necessary for playing the piano and the fun of making music. Upon completion of this 8 week course students will be ready to begin private piano lessons.

Back by popular demand! Over the course of 8 weeks band members, ages 4 to 7, will rotate on drums, electric guitar, and keyboard to prepare to sing and play in their end-of-session concert. This program teaches students to become young rockers who will perform at the Richland Academy.
KidzRock is a music program that teaches children as young as 4 how to play an instrument in the setting of a rock band.Easy-to-play songs especially written for children allow these young rockers immediate access to performing and singing in a rock band.

Music Composition & Theory

Become a composer with this 9 week course on learning music composition through various periods of music. Students will write their own compositions as they learn to compose and arrange. They will study periods of music from antiquity to the modern era and will apply compositional and theoretical concepts from the historical periods. Each student will have the opportunity to identify their own interests, and some of the course will be spent studying these topics. At the end of the summer students will have the opportunity to perform their original works at the end of the summer.

This performing ensemble will study the music of the big band era and beyond, including the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, and various contemporary composers. Focus will be on ensemble playing, style, history, and improvising. This is a unique learning opportunity for students and adults interested in participating in a performance ensemble.

Richland Academy Jazz Combos

Tuition: $180

These performing ensembles will actively study jazz theory and improvisation, in addition to learning the art of small group jazz. Focus will also be on jazz history, including the music of Miles Davis, Art Blakey, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and many more. Summer rehearsals will be scheduled by the director upon availability of the ensemble members.
Participants will be placed in ensembles according to age and skill level.


Independent Studies

Jazz Theory and Improvisation
One-on-one study of jazz theory and improvisation.
Students will have the opportunity to learn jazz history, while focusing on style, and improvisation. Times can be scheduled with Paul Martin depending on his availability.

Jazz Composition and Arranging

The incredible world of jazz composition and arranging! Focus will be on the history of jazz composition and arranging, and the practice of jazz writing today! Compositions and arrangements may be performed by Richland Academy ensembles. Computer music notation software is recommended for this course.
